I am excited to announce that I will be embarking on my latest and greatest adventure yet, to Indonesia! That’s right, I will be leaving Chicago this Tuesday (thankfully during our harshest, coldest month) and flying to the other side of the globe with three long-time friends for a journey across the islands of Java and Bali.
Our flight lasts a brutal 24 hours, with a brief layover in Seoul, South Korea, then on to Jakarta, Indonesia’s capitol city and home to 28 million people. Then it’s on to Solo (also known as Surakarta), a major cultural center of Indonesia where I’m hoping to catch some gamelan performances, sample the local cuisine, and maybe catch some late-night Wayang Kulit. From there we head east to ascend Gunung Lawu and Mt. Bromo (a very active volcano) and finally make our way to the idyllic beaches of Bali.
While this all looks nice on paper, I’m sure our trip will be full of unexpected twists and turns. But what kind of adventure would it be without surprises? That’s why, unlike my previous posts, I hope to update while abroad, with pictures, videos, field recordings, and narratives, so keep a lookout in the coming weeks for some exciting new material, and hopefully (internet permitting) I’ll be posting every few days.
Until then, keep traveling.
